Heidi Taillefer: Playing with Fire and 'Ligozzi'

Heidi Taillefer’s solo exhibition at the Michael Berger Gallery, Playing with Fire, is a painterly fusion of imagination, mythology and technology, all the while giving a nod to the baroque. These fantastical paintings and drawings are both macabre and beautiful in their execution and content.  Also included will be the hand-painted car 'Ligozzi'.

Originally created to celebrate Infiniti’s 20th Anniversary and Cirque du Soleil’s 25th Anniversary and auctioned off for charity, “Ligozzi” is a fusion of the surrealistic and symbolic with mechanical elements typical of Heidi Taillefer’s style, appropriately created on an actual machine. The piece, which did not make any structural alterations to the car, represents a one-of-a-kind fusion of technology, imagination, technique, and painting.

Taillefer’s work is an exploration of the human condition in the 21st century. She culls mythological motifs with a baroque sensibility. This approach allows her to create works that are sensual, technical and at times clinical. Within these works, she investigates how nature and technology can fuse together to create a tension that is both beautiful and horrible. Machine parts intermingle within the anatomies of her figures, revealing a complex narrative in which the body acts as a metaphor for our intensely complex world.

About the car: "I was very excited to be asked to participate in this project and using the G Coupe as a canvas has been an amazing challenge. With Cirque as inspiration, there was a freedom to explore unique, juxtaposing influences for the design. I'm very proud of how my design looks on the actual vehicle, and I think it's an incredible tribute to the anniversary of both Infiniti and Cirque du Soleil." -Heidi Taillefer
